Help Fight Hunger with Our Community Table
EDITOR’S NOTE: Our Community Table is a not-for-profit, faith-based ministry committed to feeding hungry families in Florida’s Martin and Okeechobee Counties and beyond. The organization was co-founded and is led by our own Greg Waid, and Liberty Coach is a proud sponsor and supporter of their mission. With that in mind, we’re pleased to share the following message about the group’s latest effort.
With that in mind we’re the following message from Greg about the group’s latest effort. As many of you know, the ongoing government shutdown has left thousands of families without the benefits or assistance they depend on. Right now, more people than ever are struggling just to put food on the table. Our Community Table has been standing in that gap — and over the past few weeks, the need has grown at an overwhelming pace.
In Martin County, Florida alone, well over 12,000 residents rely on SNAP food-assistance benefits. While the most recent public data is outdated, we know the real number is even higher — and with benefits disrupted, local food banks and pantries simply cannot keep up with the increasing demand. Families are turning to community-led efforts like ours to make sure their children don’t go hungry.
And it’s heartbreaking to see. Why does it have to be this way? It just isn’t fair that so many are doing without — hardworking families, seniors, single parents, and children — all caught in the middle of something beyond their control. This is why we do what we do.
We’re now 5½ years strong, having served over 400,000 hot meals right here in Martin County. What began with a handful of volunteers and one small meal site has grown into 12 active distribution stations throughout the county, and we’ve recently expanded into Okeechobee and St. Lucie Counties to meet the growing need.
In response to the shutdown, we’ve added a Wednesday meal service alongside our regular Saturday distributions, ensuring families have access to food twice a week until things stabilize. Each week, we fill over 120 volunteer spots— people from all walks of life, united by compassion and a shared desire to serve their neighbors in love.
Our “$5.91 Feeds a Family of Three” campaign reminds us that even the smallest act of generosity can create a ripple of hope. Every contribution helps us continue providing meals and encouragement to those who are hurting and hungry during this challenging time. Won’t you please help?
