“Laid Back Luxury” Offers Welcome Relief on Tellico Lake

Hopes were running high over the 4th of July weekend in anticipation of the summer’s first major rally for Prevost coach owners. And while no one knew quite what to expect, “Laid Back Luxury by the Lake” turned out to be just what the doctor ordered.

Some two dozen coaches and about 50 people turned out for the aptly named gathering which took place July 8-12 on the shores of Tellico Lake, just outside Knoxville. The event was co-sponsored by Prevost and River Landings, the popular luxury motorcoach resort located just inland from Fort Myers, Florida.

“We were looking to do an event somewhere in the mid-South, one that would appeal to the convertors and their customers, and the Tellico Marina seemed perfect,” said Rick Smith, president of River Landings. “We’re very familiar with the area – in fact, we’re close to breaking ground on a new resort on the lake – so putting the event together was relatively easy. And it really worked out well.”

No one in attendance would argue his point. As the name promised, the rally was all about laid-back luxury, including swimming, sunning and boating by day and catered dinners, live music and informal get-togethers by night.

The highlight came Saturday night, when professional auctioneer (and Liberty Coach owner) Bill McCauley emceed a special auction to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital that raised nearly $15,000.

For Liberty Coach, the event served to kick off a somewhat busier late summer and fall travel schedule that comes as a welcome relief after months of inactivity forced by the pandemic. Next up is Liberty Week at Hearthside Grove in northern Michigan (July 27-August 1), followed by our annual trek to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally (August 5-13), and later on, the Bus ‘n Bikers Fally Rally at Mountain Falls (Spetember 26-October 2).

But for Frank and Denise Konigseder, “Laid Back Luxury by the Lake” proved to be something to savor. “It was great to get back with our customers after not seeing them for the past several months,” Frank Konigseder commented. “Our thanks to Rick and everybody else who worked to make the event a reality. This is what motorcoaching is all about.”
