Absolutely First Class: 2024 Kentucky Derby Rally Recap
Staging any Liberty Coach rally is a major undertaking. Typically, planning takes about a year from concept through execution. Significant cash outlays are required for accommodations, activities and entertainment, vendors, marketing and more. And then there are potentially impactful variables like weather and travel conditions that are simply beyond your control.
All of which makes last month’s 150th Kentucky Derby Rally such a remarkable achievement. What started with a casual conversation between Frank and Denise last September evolved into the biggest, boldest, and arguably most successful event in Liberty Coach history. Twenty-five coaches made the trip, and over 60 guests were on hand for the four-day agenda, which included a day trip to renowned Heritage Farm as well as the two days of historic racing at Churchill Downs. And “historic” is no exaggeration: the weekend featured the first dual Oaks/Derby win by a jockey and trainer since 1956 as well as the closest ever Derby finish in the race’s 150-year history.
It all came off without a hitch. “There wasn’t a hiccup,” Frank pointed out proudly. “Everybody was more than impressed.” Longtime Liberty owner and rallygoer Kevin Babineau agreed. “I was blown away, to be honest,” he said. “The setup was amazing and the way that Liberty did it was incredible. It was just absolutely first class all the way through.”
